The Fargo Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care System, in partnership with the Hubbard County Veteran Service Office (VSO), touted its latest technology on April 3rd. The Park Rapids VSO, located at 201 Fair Ave., is now an Accessing Telehealth through Local Area Stations (ATLAS) site.

ATLAS sites offer health care services that don’t require hands-on exams, such as primary care, mental health counseling, clinical pharmacy, nutrition services, social work and more, according to the VA.
The VA states there is no copay for these video appointments, whether accessed at home or at an ATLAS site. The service is intended to supplement, but not replace in-person care.
According to a news release, ATLAS is “a key component of the VA Anywhere to Anywhere Telehealth Initiative, designed to enhance access to care for veterans in Park Rapids and the surrounding communities.”
By establishing an ATLAS site at the Park Rapids VSO, the VA hopes to break down common barriers that veterans face, “such as lengthy travel times for appointments, inclement weather conditions and unreliable internet connectivity at home.”
