THANKFUL FOR OUR VETERANS
On the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour in 1918 an armistice agreement was signed to begin the peace process and a ceasefire began on the Western Front. It was a signal of the end of WWI. WWI was thought to be the “war to end all wars” so Armistice Day was primarily a day to honor WWI veterans. It was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor all veterans from all eras. Come out to the Post on November 15 to say thank you as we have our annual Veterans Day dinner from 4:30-7 pm.
“November is tied together with the heartstrings of gratitude.”
Did you know that being grateful is actually good for your health? Improved mood, reduced stress, enhanced creativity, and improved sleep are just a few health benefits as well as making you a more likable person. November is a great month to practice gratitude and count your blessings. Yes, sometimes it takes some practice. We have so much to be grateful for and I think, in times of stress, we get bogged down in everything negative. Especially this time of year when we loose so much daylight (Turn those clocks back on November 2nd! Can hardly wait for it to be dark at 4 pm). Negative energy is hard to turn around once it takes hold. I encounter people that I lovingly label as “Eeyores” because they are always doom and gloom. It is a challenge to keep the atmosphere lively and conversations more like Eeyore’s opposite, Tigger. Although, too much Tigger can be a bad thing. It’s all about balance. I’m thankful for all the people in my life no matter what Winnie the Pooh character they may resemble. I learn something from each of them.
Gentlemen! It is time to “shave” the date.
Lose those razors and grow a mustache this November to support men’s health. Movember is a global movement to raise awareness for men’s health issues. It is a good time to start a conversation about prostrate and testicular cancer as well as mental health issues and suicide prevention. Encourage those men in your life to schedule preventive appointments.
Kick off the holiday season with Tom and Jerry’s on November 26. Our annual Children’s Christmas Party is on December 7. Consider donating some time to ringing bells for the Salvation Army. Contact a member for more information!
Celebrate those still serving. Honor those who served. Remember those no longer with us. On Veterans Day and every day.
