We’re once again looking for recommendations for candidates to attend the American Legion’s Boys and Girls State programs in June of this year. If you’re not familiar with the programs, here is a brief overview:
This American Legion program is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high school students. A participatory program in which students become part of the operation of local, county and state government.
Participants learn the rights, privileges and responsibilities of franchised citizens. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county and state governments. Operated by students elected to various offices, the activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, choruses and recreational programs.
Boys State: The upcoming opportunity is from June 8 – June 14, 2025, and will be held at St. Johns, Collegeville, MN. In addition to covering the individual expenses for attendees, the Post will make arrangements for travel to and from the event.

Girls State: The dates for this event are June 15 – June 21, 2025, and will be held at Bethel University in St. Paul, MN. In addition to covering the individual expenses for attendees, the Auxiliary will make arrangements for travel to and from the event.

Qualifications
In order to be eligible for nomination or appointment as a delegate for Boys or Girls State, the Nominee must:
- Be a Junior in High School
- Have demonstrated good quality and character in the school and the community
- Is enthusiastic and gets along well with others
- Be sponsored by the Legion Post or Auxiliary Unit
